前弧海盆に堆積した田辺層群の上部層が分布します。見草崎には斜交層理やリップルマークなど、浅海に堆積した地層特有の堆積構造を観察することができます。また貝、クジラ、カニなどの化石が発見されています。港の対岸には、かつて地層の中を泥が数100m上昇した泥ダイアピルを観察することもできます。
