権現崎では、田辺層群上部層に泥質な下部層が貫入した泥岩岩脈が発達します。田辺層群の形成当時、地震などをきっかけに地下深くの泥が液状化し、上の地層の中に割り込んでできた泥ダイアピルから延びている岩脈と考えられています。波食棚から海食崖にかけて、泥岩岩脈を立体的に観察できる貴重な場所です。
