V字谷の峡谷は、紀伊半島の隆起と北山川の下方侵食によって形成されたものです。峡谷に分布する竜神付加体と熊野層群の岩石が、熱水変質を受けて硬化していたことが、峡谷形成の要因ともなりました。5月から9月には観光筏下りが行われています。
