加工の容易さから石垣や壁などの石材として利用されてきた宇津木石の採石場跡です。樫野埼灯台や潮岬灯台建設のための石材としても利用されています。宇津木石は一枚岩などと同じ古座川弧状岩脈の流紋岩質火砕岩です。
