古座川河内祭（国指定無形民俗文化財）の祭祀の中心となる岩島です。河内祭りの祭典の中核をなす三艘の御舟は中世の熊野水軍のおもかげを伝えるといわれます。御神体となる河内島は古座川弧状岩脈の流紋岩（花崗斑岩）でできています。

It is Iwashima（rock island), which is the center of the ritual of the Kozagawa Kawachi Festival (a nationally designated intangible folk cultural property). It is said that the three boats, which form the core of the Kawachi Festival, convey the essence of the Kumano Navy in the Middle Ages. Kawachijima, which is the deity, is made of rhyolite (granodiorite) in the Ichimai-iwa arcuate dike.
