オン崎南側の波食棚には付加体を特徴付けるスラスト（低角な逆断層）が観察できます。大規模なスラストの運動により、波食棚は強い力で地層が破壊された破砕帯となっています。紀伊半島の土台をなす牟婁付加体が、海洋プレートの沈み込みによって作られるときにできた松根−平井スラストの破砕帯です。
