蓬莱山はマグマからできた流紋岩(花崗斑岩)からなります。秦の始皇帝の命を受けた徐福の一行が、蓬莱山を目指して上陸したと伝わります。古代より神が降臨する霊山として敬意を払われてきました。熊野川に面した古くからの祭祀の場で、南麓に阿須賀神社があります。

Since ancient times, it has been respected as a sacred mountain where God descends. It is an ancient ritual site facing the Kumano River, and there is Asuka Shrine at the southern foot of the mountain.
