紀伊大島に分布する流紋岩質火砕岩中に空いた大きな穴です。火成岩からなる海食洞窟の天井が崩落したものと考えられます。底は海と繋がっています。かつて、六部（六十六カ国の霊場にお経を納めて廻る行者）が２人の武士に追いかけられ、この穴の淵まで追いつめられ斬り殺され底に転落したという伝説があります。


It is a large hole in the rhyolite pyroclastic rocks distributed on Kii Oshima. It is probable that the ceiling of the seafood cave made of igneous rock collapsed. The bottom is connected to the sea. There is a legend that Rikubu (a person who pays sutras to the sacred sites of 66 countries) was chased by two samurais, chased to the edge of this hole, slaughtered, and fell to the bottom.
