古座川町・マップ７９：S18 佐本（さもと）渓谷の古座街道

かつて主要な交通路として利用された古座街道の峠を越える区間です。福井谷集落跡を通って佐本川の渓谷から峠に上る道沿いには石造や石畳が残されています。佐本渓谷には紀伊半島の土台をなす牟婁付加体が露出し、海底扇状地に堆積した地層や断層が観察できます。
It is a section that crosses the pass of the Koza Kaido, which was once used as the main transportation route. Stone structures and cobblestones are left along the road that goes up to the pass from the valley of the Samoto River through the ruins of the' Fukuidani' village. The Muro accretionary prism, which forms the basis of the Kii Peninsula, is exposed in the Samoto Valley, and the strata and faults deposited on the submarine alluvial fan can be observed.
