「古座川弧状岩脈」の流紋岩質火砕岩でできた巨大な岩壁です。約1400万年前、「熊野カルデラ」形成に伴い流紋岩質マグマが地表へ噴出する際の通路として、延長20ｋｍ以上にわたる「古座川弧状岩脈」が形成されました。この岩壁には、一枚岩の守り犬の民話があり、毎年、4月と8月には巨大な守り犬の影が出現します。
