「古座川弧状岩脈」の流紋岩質火砕岩が風化し、虫喰い状のタフォニを形成したものです。風化の原因は表面から水が蒸発する過程で、石膏などの微結晶の成長によって岩盤表面が剥がれ落ちて形成されると考えられます。また、耳の病気にご利益があるという信仰もあります。日本の地質百選『古座川弧状岩脈』の主要景観のひとつです。

It is thought that the cause of weathering is the process of water evaporation from the surface, and the rock surface is peeled off and formed by the growth of microcrystals such as gypsum. There is also a belief that there is a benefit to ear diseases. It is one of the main landscapes of "Koza River Arc-shaped Dike", one of the 100 best geological sites in Japan.
