太地町・マップ７０：和田の岩門

熊野層群の角礫岩に形成された海食洞門であり、太地の古式捕鯨の祖、和田家の通用門であったと伝わります。紀伊続風土記には「和田の岩穴 村の端磯辺にあり。山を切り抜きて門の形を成す。」と記述されています。
It is said that it was a sea-terrace cave gate formed on the breccia of the Kumano Group, and was the common gate of the Wada family, the ancestor of old-fashioned whaling in Taiji. The Kii Shoku Fudoki states, "It is located on the edge of the village of Iwaana in Wada. It is cut out from the mountain to form a gate."
