昭和東南海地震（1944年）の「大津浪記念之碑」が、天満神社西側入口付近に建立されています。高さ約2.5メートルの石碑です。この大津波は、国道42号まで到達し、一部で国道42号より山側まで到達しました。当時の那智町と勝浦町で、37名の犠牲者を出しました。

The "Otsunami Memorial Monument" of the Showa Tonankai Earthquake (1944) is erected near the western entrance of Tenman Shrine. It is a stone monument with a height of about 2.5 meters. This big tsunami reached National Highway No. 42, and partly reached the mountain side from National Highway No. 42. In Nachi-cho and Katsuura-cho at that time, 37 people were the victims.
