"景勝地である弁天島には、大潮の干潮には歩いて渡ることができます。弁天島とお蛇浦南端の海岸には緩く傾いた熊野層群の地層があり、小規模な断層や褶曲のほか、生痕化石などが見つかります。お蛇浦遊歩道の入口付近には、地層内部で大規模な液状化・流動化が起り、地下から周囲の岩石を取り込みながら上昇してできた泥ダイアピルがあります。この場所では熱水活動の痕跡も観察されます。
