新宮市・マップ６：E5 浮島の森
泥炭浮遊体でできた島です。その西側は浮遊しているとみられますが、島の周辺部は流入土砂により固定されているのが現状です。浮島はかつて市街地に沼沢池が広がっていた名残です。新宮藺沢浮島植物群落として、昭和2年に国の天然記念物に指定されています。
It is an island made of floating peat. The west side seems to be floating, but the surrounding area of the island is currently fixed by inflowing sediment. Floating islands are a remnant of the once swamp ponds that spread throughout the city. It was designated as a national natural monument in 1945 as a plant community of Ukishima, Shingu.
